Weekly Announcements for Wednesday, March 19, 2014
1. The
Rocket Club will meet every Thursday night up to and including Thursday, May
15, 2014 unless otherwise stated. The
Rocket Club meets from 1900-2100hrs at the Armoury. The club is open to all cadets in the
Squadron. There is a $20.00 fee for
cadets who wish to participate in the club.
This covers the cost of your rocket (choice of 1 or 3 different styles,
1 rocket engine, all supplies and training necessary to safely build and launch
your rocket, 1 supervised launch (date TBC) with an option to purchase
additional engines, an invitation to the launch contest (there will be
prizes!), and rocket related classes and movie night. Since this is a club and not a competitive
team there is no requirement to make it out every Thursday night. Club members are encouraged to attend as many
nights as possible, but in fact only about 4 nights are required in order to
receive instruction and build your rocket.
2. Cadets who wish to participate in an air rifle range practice and/or attempt to qualify for a marksmanship badge are encouraged to sign up for a Thursday night range practice. Range will be held every Thursday night up to and including Thursday, May 15, 2014 unless otherwise stated. Range runs from 1900 to 2100hrs at the Armoury.
3. 638 Squadron is offering cadets the opportunity to learn
archery. Archery is being run out of the
South Side Community Centre at Garrison Petawawa. There is no cost to participate in
archery. We can accommodate up to 15
cadets in the morning and 15 cadets in the afternoon. Cadets can sign up for multiple shifts if the
vacancies exist. Archery will run on
Sunday, March 23, 2014, Sunday, April 6, 2014, and Sunday, April 13, 2014. Cadets signed up for Sunday, March 23, 2014
(0900-1200hrs) are:

-Hodder
-McCafferty
-Vaillancourt

4. Drill Team practices are held every Monday night at the
Pembroke Armoury from 1830-2030hrs unless otherwise stated.
5. Next Wednesday, March 26, 2014 we will be holding our
monthly Commanding Officer’s Parade starting at 2030hrs. The Commanding Officer of 2 Combat Engineer
Regiment will be the Reviewing Officer for the parade. Parents and guardians are encouraged to
attend our monthly CO’s Parades.
6. All cadets are encouraged to participate in the upcoming
trip to Ottawa on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
We will be visiting the Canadian War Museum in the morning, touring the
residence of the Governor General (Rideau Hall) in the afternoon, and taking in
the Ottawa Senators game that evening.
This is the first year that the Ottawa Senators will be sponsoring a
“Cadet Night” at one of their games.
Cadets will be marking the flags on to centre ice for the National
anthems and there will be various displays promoting the Canadian Cadet
Movement. Cadets will be in uniform
(i.e. parka, tunic, dress shirt, tie, etc…) for the entire day’s
activities. Transportation to and from
Ottawa, admission to the Canadian War Museum, lunch, and supper will be
supplied. Cadets will be required to pay
$35.00 for their ticket to the game.
This must be remitted with the permission slip. Arrangements can be made with
parent/guardian(s) of cadets who may not be able to afford the price of the
ticket at this time. These
parent/guardian(s) are encouraged to speak to Capt Duchene. Permission slips and money must be returned
no later than Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
7. The Squadron has been invited to tour 427 Special
Operations Aviation Squadron and 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron on Saturday,
April 5, 2014. All cadets are encouraged
to attend these two tours. The
permission slip for this activity will be handed out this coming Wednesday.
8. All lottery cadets must be returned immediately.
