Biathlon Practice Sunday, Jan 16 @ Jubilee Lodge, Petawawa

There will be a Biathlon practice Sunday, January 16th at Jubilee Lodge (click for map), Petawawa from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Parents are asked to come for a meeting at 10:00 for about 30 minutes. I will be providing information on the competition that the Biathlon team will be competing in at the end of January in Sault Ste Marie. I will distribute an information sheet with details for you to take home.

After the meeting the biathletes will have a ski practice and a lesson on waxing their skis.

Please ensure you bring:

• skis/boots/poles
• filled water bottle
• warm beverage such as hot chocolate
• lunch, we will eat our lunch in Jubilee Lodge
• extra gloves
• wear layered clothing, remeber it doesn't take long to warm up when you're skiing

Until Sunday, pray for snow, we need more snow.

LEADERSHIP COURSE - 8 JAN 11

Reminder that the "Dave Harris School of Higher Learning" will be offering a leadership course this Saturday, January 8, 2011 at CFB Petawawa from 0900hrs (9:00am) until 1600hrs (4:00pm).  Attendance is encourage from all Flight Corporals and up.  Lunch will be provided.  More information to follow this Wednesday night.

Biathlon 2010/11

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Christmas.

We have had great weather for skiing. I hope you have been taking advantage of the fabulous weather we have had and been trying out your skate skiis.

We will be competing at the 2011 Northern Ontario Area Competition, 28-30 January 2011 in Sault Ste Marie, ON.

Before we depart for our competition we will be practicing both skiing and shooting on the following dates and locations:

• Sunday, January 9th at Beachburg and Ottawa River Sportsman's Club from 10 am to 1 pm (skiing and shooting)
• Sunday, January 16th at Jubilee Lodge Petawawa from 10 am to 1 pm (skiing only)
• Sunday, January 23rd at Beachburg and Ottawa River Sportsman's Club from 10 am to 1 pm (skiing and shooting)

NATIONAL SUMMER TRAINING COURSES

The following courses are for senior cadets and are considered "National Summer Training Courses":

• Advanced Aviation Technology - Airport Operations (AATC-AO)
• Advanced Aviation Technology - Aircraft Maintenance (AATC-AM)
• Advanced Aerospace Course (AASC)
• Oshkosh Trip

Cadets interested in applying for these courses should:

• Read the 2011 Need to Know Booklet for applicants. This is a reasonably short document with some information to help the Cadet understand the process of National Course application and selection. • Ensure that they have met all the prerequisites as outlined in the Air Cadet Summer Opportunities Brochure
• Submit the following to Capt Graham by 12 Jan 11 in order to be considered:
- A narrative (as outlined on pages 5 & 6 of the Need to Know Booklet).
- A copy of their high school transcript
- A completed DND 2226 (Air Cadet Summer Training Application). This may be obtained from the office.

Tour of 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron - 15 Dec 10

Our squadron has been invited to tour 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron on 15 Dec 10. 427 Squadron is equipped with the CH-146 Griffon helicopter.The Squadron serves Canadian Special Operations Command (CANSOFCOM) by providing an aviation capability to all the units within this command. It also serves Army operations by providing tactical airlift of troops and equipment, casualty evacuation and logistical support, and supports search and rescue operations in central Canada when required.

The cadets are to be dropped off at 427 Squadron by 6:30pm and will be dismissed by 9:00 pm. To drive to 427 Squadron enter at the main gate of CFB Petawawa via Petawawa Blvd. Travel on this road (it becomes Menin road upon entering the base) past the four way stop. Make a right onto Paschendale Road (past the fuel pumps). Follow this road for awhile, down the hill and around the curve until meeting the gate and security for 427 Sqn.

Cadets are to dress in uniform, being sure to bring their cadet parka, cadet toque, and plain black gloves. Cadets who do not have an issued parka are to wear a civilian jacket over their uniform.

Due to the strict security in place at 427 Squadron, no electronic devices (cell phones, ipods, cameras) are permitted. These items are to be left at home.
